The myriad benefits of shotcrete...

Shotcrete has all of the advantages of standard concrete materials, such as its high tensile strength, durability, fire retardation, low permeability, and thermal efficiency. Shotcrete will match and even out-perform most standard concrete construction as its direct application to surfaces increases density and enhances its characteristics.

Almost any surface is suitable for applying fresh mix Shotcrete to: wood and steel forms, even plastic and polystyrene. In many applications either only a one-sided form is required, or no form at all. This means that application can be completed in very short times, often a fraction of that with traditional methods, even on overhead or highly complex shapes.

The near or even total elimination of the need for forms is one of shotcrete’s greatest advantages. The design, construction, transport, installation, and eventual removal of the forms used to support fresh concrete while it sets enough to support its own weight is often the most expensive and labour intensive parts of construction.

While the shotcrete mix is still fresh on the form, textures and finishes can be directly applied. The fresh nature of the mix means that a finish will bond well to the surface, significantly improving its durability.

Shotcrete is an excellent material in terms of sustainability. As with standard concrete, the Shotcrete mix can contain high percentages of recycled material, while its high thermal mass makes for more energy efficient structures.

As Canada’s premiere structural shotcrete provider, the TORRENT SHOTCRETE has been a pivotal partner in the construction of many of Canada’s most advanced and prestigious facilities since 2006. Our extensive portfolio of projects ranges from extensive below-grade parkades, large-scale civil engineering projects to small residential structures.

TORRENT is an international pioneer in shotcrete innovation with many of the most recent advancements originating from TORRENT’s research and development team. But even more than the technologies and techniques we have helped pioneer, it’s the professional relationships with clients and contractors that we have forged that sets us apart. We understand the requirements and expectations of contractors and our consultative approach has made us an invaluable resource to those clients who want to shatter the boundaries of construction methodology.

Eliminate 2-Sided Forms

Advantage: Shotcrete

The near or even total elimination of the need for 2-sided forms is one of shotcrete’s greatest advantages.

Apply on Any Surface

Advantage: Shotcrete

Almost any surface is suitable for applying fresh mix Shotcrete to - wood and steel forms, even plastic and polystyrene.

Accelerate Schedules

Advantage: Shotcrete

On typical projects, shotcrete accelerates construction schedules by 25% to 30%, leading to significant project cost savings.

Enhance Creative Flexibility

Advantage: Shotcrete

Complex shapes require very little if any form work. Architects and designers have the freedom to consider applications that would never have been practical in the past.

Improve Site Efficiencies

Advantage: Shotcrete

Reducing forms on site eliminates costly shipping, installation and storage factors. Consequently, project work sites are less cluttered and more efficient.

Greater Sustainability

Advantage: Shotcrete

Shotcrete mix can contain high percentages of recycled material, while its high thermal mass makes for more energy efficient structures.
